AJ MILLER AND FRIENDS

This is a bit out of time sequence, but deserves a separate post.  On an utterly mundane day in late October, through serendipitous timing, I added a little brown dog to my family.  My sister Stacie is the office manager of Mountainwood Pet Hospital in nearby Windsor. My best CO friend Sandy was supposed to drop by my house on her way to the vet clinic and take something to Stacie.  We missed our connection on that so I cruised on over myself.  As luck would have it, Rocky Mountain Puppy Rescue had several dogs in for spays, neuters and minor medical treatments.  Stacie showed me an adorable young puppy and as I was leaving, Dr. Janie Wagstaff called to me from a treatment room where she was cleaning up a small leg wound on a tiny light brown dog with long legs.  She looked like a fawn!  One year old with a rough history behind her, she was repeatedly passed over at adoption events because she was so shy.  I held her and the deal was sealed!  I barely had time to go out for some dog things and I came back for her that very afternoon.  The Mountainwood staff vouched for my qualifications as a pet guardian and that was that!

Presenting Miss AJ (Alma Joy) Miller:

Hello, I am so sweet and demure - NOT!!!!!!
Go away!  I hate my Christmas presents!  I said I wanted more bones!

AJ turns out to not be shy at all.  She gets on famously with the cats, especially young Timmy and she likes dogs equally well.  She has a play date once a week with her boyfriend, black and white chihuahua Pepe Juan Carlos, who is Dr. Janie's recent rescue.

Pepe spent a week with us over the New Year's holiday so his moms Janie and Gail and their kids, Claire and Luke, could have a winter vacation.

Here are some shots of the two pups and Timmy, their unindicted co-conspirator.  It's curtains for the free world if these three ever break out!

Now I've got you on the ropes, senor Pepe!

Suggling on the heated blanket.

Pepe likes a curly haired black kitty named Timmy of Timnath.

Oh hello, you again with the camera!

AJ is foraging for bird seed.
Pepe is going home today and I'm sure AJ and Timmy will miss him.  Aidan is quite disapproving of all the ruckus and generally avoids such foolishness.  He and Timmy get their snuggles in while the dogs nap.

  1. She's adorable, Val--so glad she's not really shy, just as Ansel wasn't really feral. What a great family you have there.

    And Happy Birthday, too!
